Jonathan Lisecki ‘s movie Gayby is making its world premiere at SXSW; it’s a feature that expands the story from his short film of the same name. You had to be fast and funny to be heard in my family.
The city within a city feel of the surroundings made me more acutely aware of the urban struggle to provide for family. With the fast paced witty repartee and colorful characters, the comedy here is very smart and quick. I saw the story in comic terms, but there was some serious feeling underneath, a kind of sadness that I no longer had that option.
Lisecki is the rare indie director. We strove to make our cast and crew crack up. The Lower East Side portion of the program wraps up Aug. Austin filmmaker Liford was Director of Photography on Gayby, so you know it’s going to look good; when you read the premise, you can be pretty sure it’s one of the more memorable plots in an already edgy fest lineup.
