Kind of like a Gallic Goodfellas, Mesrine is based on a real gangster and similarly spans decades of his life. Every once in a while a part comes along that is cast so well it’s as if the actor was born to play and will forever be remembered for that role. Killer Instinct is one of the best crime dramas that I’ve seen in quite some time. Since this is the second half, some viewers may find that this part is more thrilling and it is, but as a whole, and I really look at both parts as one film, as it should, Jean-Francois Richet has made a highly memorable picture, one of the finest gangster pictures that I’ve seen in quite some time.

Sep 3, Rating: Unafraid to get into every nook and cranny of its dark universe, but doesn’t always have emotion, thematic, moralistic, or artistic substance to back up its bold embrace towards mesrihe dark. What doesn’t help is that a lot of what happens is taken from the book Mesrine wrote in prison ‘Killer Instinct’ a work that he himself has said was slightly exaggerated to make him seen more notorious than he actually was.
Killer Instinct is the story of notorious criminal Jacques Mesrine who progressed from petty crime on the streets of Paris to become Canada’s public enemy number one. The reason this movie works as well as it does is due to Vincent Cassel continuing to give his flawless performance as Mesrine; only this time with a giant beer gut.
There’s no drastic stylistic change this time around, though there’s a more prevalent sense of doom. There are no approved quotes yet for this movie. In the moment it’s thrilling stuff, but strung together over hours it becomes clear that [Richet] has absolutely nothing to say about Mesrine.

These scenes show all his bluster about being a “revolutionary” was really a smoke screen to cover his ever increasing ego and obsession with his own public image. Nothing wrong with that, as long as its commanding throughout.
Killer Instinct boasts a dark tone with a riveting story, and at moments, you may be sitting at the edge of your seat, but by the end, you’ll be wondering what the point of the film was and end up not caring to figure it out.

You start with feeling for the main character due to the circumstances but soon you’ll end up on the other side, detesting his being, but that makes you all the more nailed to your seat to see what happens next.
